How to Stay Cool in this Extreme Heat

Every year about this time we get into the severe 90 degree heat days, and I see folks struggle on the water to stay cool enough to still enjoy their day on the water. The first things I tell my customers are to bring a towel and keep it wet and keep it around your neck. The water around the back of the neck cools the complete body, in fact your head and neck control most of your body temperature; if you’re hot around the head and neck your body temperature is high if you’re cool you’re body temperature cools down.

Those of you that would like a better solution Frogg-Toggs makes a cooling towel; you can wet it at night put in the refrigerator and it will just about keep you cool for the entire day. It is technology they developed and it works, pure fact it keeps you cool. You can dip it in your ice chest a couple of times a day and it will amaze you.

One thing that I find folks fail to do is to wear light color clothing, it is without a doubt been proven light colored clothes keeps you cooler than dark ones. In addition to that you can also purchase clothing that has built in UV protection and not only will it help keep you cool you but it will also protect from the sun. One thing that many people also fail to realize is that under garments hold body heat in, so leave you under garments at home and you will notice the difference.

Lastly regardless of what you may have learned many years ago, water and plenty of it is the key to keeping your body temperature from overheating. Soft drinks have too much sugar and cause you to sweat way too much. Heat stroke is generally caused from low body liquids namely water, so drink plenty of water and you will protect your body from sun stroke.
